Day Five in Oregon

May 14, 2008 – 11:58 pm
Today we continued up the coast in thick fog.  I think that is probably common for here.  My favorite shop today was Center Diamond in Cannon Beach.  I got some ocean-themed fabrics there.  Now, I just need to figure out when I am going to have time to make all these quilts! Tomorrow is the first day of Quilt Market.  Scott and I will be attending Schoolhouse to see what is new on the market.  I can't wait! Wendy

Day Four in Oregon

May 14, 2008 – 12:31 am
Today we left Eugene, and no we didn't run into President Clinton, who was also in Eugene.  We headed to the Oregon coast and traveled north on Highway 101.  Several quilt shops were discovered along the way and I found some great local patterns with lighthouses and other sea creatures.  I also discovered some new products that I will be looking for at market and bringing back to the shop.  My favorite shop today was Joy of Quilting in Florence.  We have one more day of sightseeing before heading back to Portland for Quilt Market.  I am looking forward to getting to work finding new products and fabrics for the shop. Happy Quilting!  Wendy

Day Three in Oregon

May 12, 2008 – 11:50 pm
Today we started our shop hopping in Bend and continued to Sisters, Springfield and Eugene.  My favorite shop was Sew May Quilts in Bend.  This is one of the shops in the spring issue of Quilt Sampler magazine that just came out a week ago (yes, we still have copies).  I saw a redwork quilt there (you can see a corner of it in one of the photographs in the magazine) and I bought the pattern.  I think I am going to try my hand at redwork.  It was a cute snowman quilt from Crab-apple Hill.  I am anxious to start it.  I think it will make a good travel project. Nature gave us a special moment today.  We saw a sign for a scenic viewpoint and we pulled off the road.  The walkway to the nearby McKenzie River was covered with about 6 ft. of unmelted snow.  We decided to go anyway and ...

Day Two in Oregon

May 12, 2008 – 2:06 am
We began our day at Crystal Springs Azalea and Rhododendron Garden in Portland.  The Rhododendron, or Rhodies as they call them here, were gorgeous.  Afterwards we went to the Japanese Garden in Washington Park and then it was off through the Columbia River Gorge where we saw several waterfalls and a rainbow.  We continued on the Mt. Hood Loop to Mt. Hood.  It was snowing there and visibility was low, so we really couldn't see the mountain, but the snow covered trees and snow banks were beautiful.  Next, we headed through the high desert to Bend.  Tomorrow we will be shop hopping in Bend and Sisters and taking photos of the scenery here.

Day One in Oregon

May 11, 2008 – 12:30 am
Today we arrived in Portland and began our adventure with some quilt shop hopping.  My favorite shop was located in West Linn, a suburb of Portland.  It's called Hollyhill Quilt Shop and Mercantile.  It is located in the quaint downtown area of West Linn.  The shop was filled with great display pieces filled with fabrics and gift items.  Next door was Lavender Bleu, a cute gift shop with lots of goodies.  If you ever find yourself in the City of Roses, be sure to visit West Linn and Hollyhill Quilt Shop.  You will enjoy it.  Tomorrow, weather permitting, we are going to visit some of the beautiful gardens here in Portland.  The Rhodedendron are in bloom and are gorgeous.  Everything seems to be in bloom here now.  I hope to get some great photographs. Spring Quilt Market

May 6, 2008 – 11:26 am
Hello!  Scott and I will be leaving soon for Portland, Oregon to attend Quilt Market.  We are going to do some sightseeing while we are there as well.  I am looking forward to seeing some beautiful country and some beautiful new fabrics!   I love going to Quilt Market and seeing all the new fabrics, notions and patterns.  There is an excitement that fills the air at market and it is invigorating.  We are taking a laptop with us, so I will be attempting to make posts to the blog while I am away.  I am hoping that we can figure out how to add pictures (this blog stuff is new to us).  I hope you will check back soon.  BTW - we just put out our first Christmas line of fabric - Secret Santa.  It is cute!
