Fat Quarter Five

April 14, 2009 – 5:58 pm
I want to tell you about a great  book I recently discovered by Heather Mulder Peterson (Anka's Treasures).  It is called Fat Quarter Five and within it's covers are five great quilt patterns.  The cover quilt is called Lakeside Dreams and is a fabulous quilt that uses five to ten fat quarters and five other fabrics for the background, setting triangles, borders and binding.  I am getting ready to make one now.  I chose fabrics in blue, green and periwinkle.  I can't wait to get it finished!  Fat Quarter Five is available now in the shop and in our on-line shop (go to http://avetter.hostcentric.com/store/index.html to order on-line).  The best part is the price.  You get these five great quilt patterns for under $14.  What a bargain!  With Heather's beautiful quilts, well-written and illustrated instructions and the great price, this is really a book you need in your quilting library.  Other great books by Heather that we ...

Delicious!

March 27, 2009 – 11:10 am
If you haven't discovered the world that opens with applique, now would be a good time.  There are so many wonderful applique patterns and books available to you that if you haven't given applique a try, you are missing out.  Applique allows us to bring to life our quilting projects with birds, flowers, people, landscapes and other wonderful things.  Applique is fun.  Don't miss the boat; it is time to get on board.  Next week, there is an opportunity to learn machine applique, which is probably the easiest and quickest form of applique.  We are conducting a class on machine applique using the pattern, Delicious, by The Little Quilt Company.  In this class, you will learn the machine quilting technique using a fusible web product while making one of the fruit or vegetable blocks of your choice.  This pattern has 12 different fruit and vegetable blocks that can be made into ...

The Breakfast Club - A Big Hit!

March 4, 2009 – 7:08 pm
The classroom was tranformed into the BC Diner complete with the savory aroma's of breakfast casserole, English muffins, fruit, hash brown potatoes, orange juice and fresh coffee - yum, yum.  After appetites were satisfied, Dee Dee and I began the meeting with an icebreaker game, which was a lot of fun.  We all learned some new things about each other.  Afterwards, all eight quilt blocks (all with a breakfast food name) were introduced.  The introduction was followed by a demo of February's Eggs Benedict block.  Quilting tips were shared, as well as a good time by all.  The meeting concluded with each member choosing from a tray filled with fabulous fabric Cinnamon Rolls.  It was an event enjoyed by all.  If you missed it, you can still join in.  There are only four openings left, so call or stop by soon. Happy Quilting! Wendy
